Connecting heritage with the global market
To bring the depth of Sri Lanka’s gem heritage to the modern global market — making world-class gemmological analysis accessible, transparent and enduring for buyers, sellers and collectors everywhere.
An independent voice in the global coloured-stone trade — rooted in Sri Lanka, trusted worldwide.
Royal Serendib Gem Lab was founded as a dedicated gemological laboratory within the Royal Serendib group of companies — a family of businesses with deep roots in Sri Lanka’s coloured-stone trade dating back over a quarter of a century.
We were created to fill a clear need: a fully independent laboratory that could give buyers, sellers, jewellers and collectors a single, trusted source of truth about the stones passing through their hands. We do not buy or sell gems, and we have no commercial interest in the value of the stones we examine.
Today our reports are recognized by trade buyers in Asia, Europe and the Americas, and our online verification portal allows the holder of any of our certificates to validate it instantly from anywhere in the world.
Colombo · Sri Lanka
Built on a lifetime in the Sri Lankan coloured-stone trade, our founder translates decades of practical experience into the disciplined science of gemmology.
With more than two decades immersed in the gem trade between Colombo, Bangkok and Hong Kong, Dulip grew up surrounded by the stones that made Ceylon famous. That early apprenticeship — first by the side of master cutters, later as a certified gemologist — shaped a deep belief that the global trade deserves laboratory work it can rely on without compromise.
Royal Serendib Gem Testing Laboratory was founded to make that belief practical: a fully independent laboratory, equipped to international standards, run with the transparency and discipline a modern gem trade demands.
“A certificate is a promise. Our promise is that every stone we examine is seen with the same patience, the same instruments, and the same honesty — no matter who walks through our door.” — Dulip Jayawardana, Founder
Built on the heritage of the Royal Serendib group, the laboratory exists to give the global gem trade a single, reliable source of truth for the stones that pass through it.
To bring the depth of Sri Lanka’s gem heritage to the modern global market — making world-class gemmological analysis accessible, transparent and enduring for buyers, sellers and collectors everywhere.
To examine every stone submitted to us with the same scientific rigour, disciplined protocol and impartial judgement — and to issue reports the trade can rely on, backed by online verification that lasts a lifetime.
We will not amend a finding for any commercial reason. Our independence is non-negotiable.
Multiple, complementary instruments and a disciplined protocol — never one test, never one opinion.
Plain-language reports describing exactly what we observed — no hidden caveats, no jargon.
Same-day and next-day turnaround where the trade needs it — without compromise on the standard of examination.
Our laboratory is equipped with both classical gemological tools and modern analytical instruments, operated by senior gemologists holding international credentials including FGA and GIA Graduate Gemologist diplomas.

The laboratory operates as the independent gemological arm of the Royal Serendib group — a family of businesses spanning gem trading, jewellery manufacturing, and design across Sri Lanka and the wider region.
Our laboratory is operationally and editorially independent of the group’s commercial activities: stones submitted to the lab by group affiliates are examined under exactly the same protocol as any third-party submission, and reports cannot be amended on commercial grounds.
For more than two decades the Royal Serendib name has been associated with quality and integrity in the Sri Lankan gem trade. The laboratory was founded to give that same standard a scientific footing — open and accountable to anyone holding a stone we have examined.
Walk-in, courier, or trade-account submissions all welcome.
